Before anyone visits your website, they meet your Google Business Profile. It's the panel that shows your hours, photos, reviews, and that "Call" button. When it's thin or out of date, customers don't call to ask questions. They just tap the next business. Here are five signs yours is leaking customers.
1. Your primary category is vague or wrong
Google leans hard on your primary category to decide what you rank for. If you do kitchen remodels but your category is "General Contractor," you're competing in the wrong race. Pick the category that names exactly what you want to be found for, then add the rest as secondary.
2. Your photos are old, few, or missing
Profiles with fresh, real photos get more clicks and calls. If your last upload was three years ago, or you're relying on a single logo, you look closed or inactive. Add real job photos often. Before-and-afters and finished work do the heavy lifting.
3. Your reviews stopped growing
A profile stuck at the same review count for a year reads as a business that slowed down. Recent reviews signal an active, trusted operation to both Google and the customer reading them. If yours have gone quiet, that's a ranking and trust problem at the same time.
4. Your hours and info are out of date
Wrong hours are a silent killer. Someone drives over on your say-so, finds you closed, and you've lost them for good. Holiday hours, a changed phone number, an old address: each one turns a ready customer into a bad experience before you ever meet them.
5. You never post and never reply
Google gives you Posts to share offers and updates, and a place to respond to every review. Most owners ignore both. An active profile, with regular posts and replies to reviews, tells Google you're engaged and tells customers you're paying attention.
The pattern behind all five
None of these are hard to fix. They're just easy to neglect when you're busy running the actual business. That neglect adds up to a profile that quietly underperforms while a more active competitor takes the calls. A quick audit shows you which of these gaps is hurting you most.
